September: Recovery Month

As many of you may not know, every September, SAMHSA sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and decrease stigma surrounding mental and substance use disorders. One of my favorite aspects of this month is the celebration of Recovery Warriors and the remembrance of those who were lost in battle.

This year’s theme is Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger & I have been granted the opportunity to guest blog with Youth Voices Matter New York, #ReadMeRoar. Youth Voices Matter NY does phenomenal work around New York State inspiring youth and young adults to develop and collaboratively establish Youth Recovery Community Organizations. One thing I admire most about YVM is their contribution in supporting the growth of each individual’s recovery process and endorsing multiple pathways to recovery.

Check out my piece, Check Yourself, Before You Wreck Yourself, as I shed some light on my relationship to Alcohol, and how our rapport has shifted over the years.

With Hope,
T.
